This month, we open our hearts in thanksgiving for two extraordinary men whose music & ministry have been the soul of our parish: Dennis Bouchard, our cantor & sacristan for 40 years, & Paul Saucier, our beloved musician for an amazing 56 years.
Dennis’s journey began early—as an altar server, then lector, and at age 14, a self-taught organist. Over the decades, he became not only a musical leader but also the devoted sacristan who lovingly prepared our sanctuary for worship. He shares: “Serving the church for me is not a chore or a job but an opportunity to serve the Lord, grow in faith, and develop a deeper relationship with GOD.” Among all seasons, Holy Week holds special meaning for him as “the most solemn and glorious week in Christianity, the pinnacle of the liturgical year.”
Paul's musical calling also took root young. In 1969, when he was just nine years old, Sister Celine heard him sing at a school concert and invited him to join the choir. He later became part of the St. Mary’s folk group, singing through his college years. During Fr. James Brewer’s time at St. Mary’s, Paul was invited to become a cantor—and graciously accepted. Often singing a cappella or alongside Dennis, he became a treasured voice in our worship.
As life moved on and schedules shifted, Dennis and Paul became what many fondly call “the blessed duo.” Their God-given talents have graced our parish through Masses, funerals, feast days, and countless sacred moments. Their music has comforted, uplifted, and united us in faith.
Together, Dennis and Paul have offered nearly a century of faithful ministry. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank them—for their voices, their presence, and the blessing they are to the people of St. Mary’s.
