“As a Sacristan, you care for the house of God with selfless devotion and commitment.”
How blessed we are as a parish to have two extraordinary women who live this calling with such humility and love at St. Joseph Church in Soldier Pond.
Mrs. Nancy Raymond - For over ten years, Nancy Raymond has lovingly cared for St. Joseph Church as its Sacristan. She recalls being invited into this ministry by former Sacristan Bernadette Dube, who asked Nancy to shadow her. Though Nancy expected to assist behind the scenes, God had other plans, shortly after she began, Bernadette could no longer continue, and Nancy stepped faithfully into the role.
Throughout her years of service, Nancy has worked with many priests, including Fr. Albert, Fr. Jim Nadeau, Fr. Alex, Fr. Kent Ouellette and Msgr. Labrie. She treasures these memories, and she even laughs about one particular moment when she forgot to place the key in the Tabernacle. When the priest went to retrieve the hosts, he couldn’t open it. Nancy quickly resolved the situation but still smiles as she recalls saying, “I locked Jesus out of His house.” Nancy’s dedication is a true blessing to our parish. Organized and wholehearted, she tends to the vestments, altar linens, and the sacred space with deep reverence. Her service is a quiet ministry of love, and on behalf of St. John Vianney Parish, we extend our sincere gratitude.

Mrs. Ann Belanger - A few years ago, Nancy approached Ann Belanger and asked if she might consider shadowing her as a possible assistant Sacristan. At the time, Ann was serving as a Catechist at the Faith Formation Center. She remembers feeling unsure at first—yet she also sensed a gentle but clear call to serve the Church in this new way. With an open heart, Ann said “yes,” trusting that the Lord would guide her.
Nancy trained Ann, even preparing a detailed list of all that must be done to ready the church and altar for Mass. Ann says she still uses that list to this day as she ministers with care and attention to detail. Ann has now been serving as Co-Sacristanfor about 2–3 years, bringing her own quiet joy and dedication to the role.
Today, Nancy and Ann share the responsibilities of Sacristan through a two‑week rotation, beautifully demonstrating the unity of the Body of Christ. Their humble service, offered without any desire for recognition, reflects hearts fully centered on serving God. How doubly blessed we are to have these two faithful women caring for the Lord’s house. Their devotion, teamwork, and love for the Church enrich our worship and strengthen our parish family.
With heartfelt gratitude, we thank Nancy Raymond and Ann Belanger. May God bless you abundantly for your service.
