St. Paul was built in 1918, by the people & the land was donated. The Jackson girls always read at Mass & orchestrated our Christmas plays. We also had many fund raisers. We had togetherness when the church was open. It is sad to go by the church & see that it is not being used. We have lots of precious memories.
We always looked forward to going to Mass every Sunday with our families, ‘Every Catholic in Allagash went to Mass.’ We had Sunday school, baptisms, weddings, & funerals. We would often walk to church. It was so nice to have our ‘little’ church. Often the priests would stop & have dinner with us. They were part of our lives, & that was incredibly special. Our last priest was Fr. Claude Gendreau. Many people comment to how, ‘its is not the same since our little church is closed’.
