The Catholic Church has always taught us, through the words of Sacred Scripture & the witness of saints like Francis of Assisi, that the natural world is created by God, that it is good, & that humans have a special duty to care for creation so that it benefits not only themselves but also future generations. Today we live in a time where pollution, climate change, & poor agricultural practices harm creation and place us all in danger.

A collection to help fund the retire religious.

The bishops of the United States established the annual Collection for the Church in Latin America as a practical expression of unity and love for their brothers and sisters in Central and South America and the islands of the Caribbean. For more than 60 years, Catholics in the United States have answered the invitation to “share your faith” by supporting pastoral ministries that strengthen the Church in the present day and help it pass on the Gospel to future generations.

Strong aftershocks continued for days afterward. Not only did about 9,000 people lose their lives, but 23,000 others were injured, and more than 750,000 homes were destroyed or damaged. Families displaced by the disaster suffered the loss of loved ones and homes. They also confronted the poverty of lost livelihoods.

In nearly 75 dioceses in the United States and its territories, funds from Catholic Home Missions are a lifeline for churches in rural areas where small Catholic populations are unable to sustain basic pastoral ministries without outside assistance.

Using this approach, CCHD-funded organizations identify the most pressing issues and develop creative solutions that lead to lasting positive changes in the community. They address poverty at its roots.

After dedicating their lives to serving others — often for little or no pay —many now living in retirement face limited financial resources. Today, over 21,000 aging religious depend on the Retirement Fund for Religious to help meet the rising costs of health care, medications, and daily living.
